FAQ

Good to know.

The questions reporters ask us most. If yours is not here, just reach out.

Does StenoDesk replace my CAT software?

No. It works alongside Eclipse, Case CATalyst, and the rest. StenoDesk handles the business around the transcript: jobs, billing, proofing, files, and your team. You still write and edit in your CAT tool, and the glossary exports right into your dictionary.

Who is it for?

Independent court reporters, scopists, and proofreaders who run their own book of business, plus agencies and firms that manage several reporters. If you juggle deadlines, agency rate sheets, and subs, it was built for you.

How do the proofing tools work?

They read the final ASCII line by line against your house style, verify each issue before flagging it, and separate clear fixes from items you should double-check against the audio. They never change what a speaker said. You stay in control of every edit.

How does billing work?

You set up each client's rate sheet once: original, copy, expedite tiers, rough draft, realtime, per diems, and overtime. StenoDesk computes the totals from the job and produces an itemized invoice you can send.

Can I work with my subcontractors?

Yes. Invite your subs by email or find new ones in the network. Assign a job, share only the files they need, and track their work and invoices from your dashboard. Payment stays directly between you and them.

Which email providers are supported?

Gmail and Outlook today, with more on the way. You can create a job straight from a notice email and keep your deadlines in sync with your calendar.

Is my data secure?

Every record is scoped to your account with row-level security, and files are stored privately with access tied to your roles. Transcripts and client data are never shared between users.

What does it cost?

It is free during the private beta. At launch, reporter plans start at $39 per month (Starter $39, Core $79, Pro $129), subcontractors are free, and firm plans are coming soon. Beta members keep a founding-member rate. See the pricing page for details.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. Your data is yours. Invoices, glossaries, and reports export, and we will never hold your work hostage.
