The cookies and local storage StenoDesk uses, why we use them, and the choices you have.
This Cookie Policy explains how StenoDesk LLC ("StenoDesk," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on the StenoDesk web application at stenodesk.com and related subdomains (the "Service"). StenoDesk is a web-first product; this policy covers our website and web app. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use related browser technologies, including local storage and session storage (data your browser holds for the app) and limited web beacons or pixels in some transactional emails to confirm delivery and opens. We refer to all of these together as "cookies" in this policy.
We keep our use of cookies deliberately limited. We use them in two categories:
a. Strictly necessary. These are required for the Service to function and cannot be turned off through our interface. They support:
b. Analytics and performance. These help us understand how the Service is used so we can fix problems and improve it. They support measuring which pages and features are used, error and crash diagnostics, and performance metrics such as load times. We configure these for privacy: analytics without session replay and error monitoring with IP storage disabled.
Some cookies are set by the service providers (subprocessors) we use to run the Service, under contractual confidentiality and security obligations. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not use Google Analytics. The providers relevant to cookies and similar technologies are:
| Provider | Purpose | Category |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication / session | Strictly necessary |
| Firebase Hosting (Google) | Static hosting / content delivery | Strictly necessary |
| PostHog | Product analytics (no session replay) | Analytics |
| Sentry | Error/performance monitoring (IP storage disabled) | Performance |
| Stripe | Subscription billing and fraud prevention on payment pages | Strictly necessary |
Each provider's own privacy and cookie practices apply to the cookies it sets. See our Privacy Policy (§6) for the full subprocessor list.
Session cookies are temporary and are cleared when you close your browser (for example, in-session authentication state). Persistent cookies and local storage remain for a set period or until you clear them (for example, keeping you signed in across sessions and remembering preferences and limited analytics identifiers).
a. Browser settings. Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies through their settings (commonly under Privacy and Security). Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in and using core features.
b. Analytics. Disabling non-essential cookies in your browser limits analytics collection. [Where required for your audience (for example, EEA/UK), a consent banner with granular controls will be added; this section will then describe how to manage your choices in-app.]
c. Impact of disabling. If you block essential cookies, you may be unable to sign in, some features may not work, and your preferences may not be saved.
Because there is no consistent industry standard for how to interpret "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signals, the Service does not currently respond to DNT signals. We will update this section if a standard is adopted.
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date.
